Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Sardar Patel College of
Engineering was established in 1962 as a culmination of
the efforts of Kulpati Dr.K.M. Munshi. The institution
was blessed to be inaugurated on the 19th of
August 1962 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru himself.
The institute is affiliated with the Mumbai University.
The Civil Engineering Department was one of the 3 departments
with which the college started its educational journey
in 1962. It was started with the 4 year degree course
(BE CIVIL) with an intake of 40 which was soon increased
to 60. With a view to encourage and enable the serving
diploma engineers to upgrade their qualifications and
update their knowledge, the four year Part Time Degree
Course (PTDC) in Civil Engineering was introduced in the
year 1985. The next milestone achieved was the establishment
of a separate Structural Department offering Post-Graduate
courses with Structural Subjects. The first such Post-Graduate
course - ME Civil - was started in the year 1988. Since
then several Part-time Post-graduate programs in Civil
and Structural fields have been started.
The Civil and Structural departments of the college are
well-known for churning out highly qualified engineers.
The departments have made a mark for themselves in the
industrial circles too by providing excellent testing
facilities for Industries in its up-to –date laboratories
with state-of the art testing equipments and infrastructure. |
